We are from a small country setting and a middle class family. When purchasing the laundromat we wanted to provide a much needed service for people to clean clothes and also a place of community and inclusion.
I remember spending much of my childhood in a laundromat with my mom. I remember how boring it was just waiting to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer and then to start folding so we could leave. As a young adult I remember finding a laundromat that was convient to the things I needed to do. I would put my stuff in the washer leave and do errands come back, put them in the dryer, do more errands come back fold then and head home.
Being parents of a special needs child the most important thing to us is family and the acceptance of all individuals within their communities.
One of the first changes we made upon purchasing the laundromat was adding in a Free Little Libary and adding to the play area for the children. We love the theme Read, Play, Learn.
Laundry time can feel like a chore but in the right setting it can be family time. It fills our hearts with so much joy when we see children making friends or playing with their parents in the play area, working on their writing on the chalkboard or white board, building blocks, play with cars.
We quickly learned that parents needed a place to fold laundry and still see their children so we moved folding tables closer to the play area. Our staff enjoys taking play time with the children so the their parents can take care of laundry without worrying about their child.
We always welcome feedback as to things you would like to see different at the laundromat. Please feel free to share your thoughts. Is there something we do you love? We like to hear those things too.
